Around 6 people have died in East Jaiñtia Hills District in a coal mine accident after the bucket attached to a crane carrying the workers snapped off plunging the workers to their deaths.
The incident occurred around 12 to 1 PM on Thursday at a place known as Sorkari near Dienshlalu Village in East Jaiñtia Hills District, Meghalaya.
The coal mines are dug vertically down to meet the coal seams which can be as deep as 100 feet, where miners are transported in and out of the mine in a metal bucket attached to a mechanical crane.
Details of the deceased are still awaited.
