PM lays base for International Multi Sports Stadium for Ampati

Ampati : Today will be deemed as a significant day in the annals of sports history of Garo Hills as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the base for the first ever international multi sports stadium for Ampati.

The Prime Minister in the presence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and MoS I/c Ministry of DONER Dr. Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone at a ceremony in Shillong while at the same time people gathered at a function organized to mark the occasion at Ampati mini stadium by the district administration in collaboration with the department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The stadium which will be located at Bolsalgre Banduraja with an estimated area of 16 acres was sanctioned under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).

Rs. 3,820.68 Lakhs and Rs. 3,468 Lakhs has been sanctioned by the state and central government respectively for the first phase of construction slated to begin soon.

South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh addressing the gathering at Ampati congratulated the people of the region and stated that the stadium was the need of the hour seeing as the abundance of potential of the youth of the region to excel in sports. The international arena will act as a platform to catapult athletes into a level that will make them at par with their counterparts in the mainland the DC said.

Among others who spoke at the occasion was the District Sports Officer Jasper P. Marak. The gathering was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner P. K. Boro, Superintendent of Police Ramesh Singh, Sports and Police officials, Nokma of Bolsalgre and senior citizens, parents and the elated youth of the region. (MIPR)
