Shillong : With an aim to create awareness on environment conservation and to inculcate a habit waste minimisation, the Jharokha Art Institution, Shillong led by its Principal, noted city painter, Jaya Kalra organised the ‘Best out Of Waste” art exhibition based on the theme ‘recycling used items’ at the MUDA complex, Police Bazar in the city on Saturday.

Art students as young as 6 years and those as old as 40 displayed their works which are articles of daily use and craft articles made out of things people normally discarded, and discarded as useless items.

There is a growing realisation of the negative impact that waste has on the environment and consequently on the health and living conditions of the people and the exhibition assumes significance in that it attempts to bring much needed awareness to the young generation and the community at large of the need to reuse recyclable materials in order to minimise environmental degradation.

In his brief speech Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan, Chief Guest at the inaugural programme, congratulated the students of Jharokha Art Institute  as well as its Principal, Jaya Kalra on the creativity displayed through their art works at the exhibition.
