CM administers pledge for national integration

Shillong : Together with the rest of the nation, Sadbhavana Diwas 2016, was observed at the Main Secretariat Building, on Friday where the State Government employees of all ranks and file coming together to take the pledge to promote national integration and communal harmony among all religions, language and regions.

Sadbhavana Diwas is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of (L) Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India, whose dream was to make India a developed country..

Speaking on the occasion briefly before administering the pledge, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma fondly recalled (L) Rajiv Gandhi as an illustrious leader who was instrumental in placing the country in the highest pedestal of modernity. His comprehensive development agenda and inclusive approach to governance gave a platform to the youth to realize their dreams and facilitated active participation of women in the otherwise male-dominated nation, he said.

The Chief Minister also said that coming together of all the people is indispensable to counter the forces inimical for the growth of the nation and spoke of the need to pool all our resources to thwart such forces indulging unlawful activities and the need to engage regionally and internationally to understand the ramifications of such activities from the geo-political perspective.

He was of the view that the celebration of Sadbhavana Diwas should not be confined only to the Secretariat but also observed in all the districts and blocks of the State “so that the message that we are trying to disseminate percolates down to all the people at the grassroots”, he added. (MIPR)
