Ampati : In order to ensure that no eligible person is left out from getting the benefits of the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme for the Infirm, Single Mothers and Persons with Disablities, a massive enrollment drive for beneficiaries of Betasing and Zikzak C&RD blocks under South West Garo Hills district was held at Ampati today.
Mahendraganj Legislator, Dikkanchi D. Shira, attended the enrollment drive organized by the District Social Welfare Office, Ampati, as the chief guest and handed out the application forms to some of the beneficiaries. Deputy Commissioner C.V.D. Diengdoh, BDO, Zikzak, R.Ch. Momin, officials of Social Welfare and Medical departments, other district officials and local leaders were also present on the occasion.
In her address, Mrs. Dikkanchi D.Shira said that this scheme launched by the Chief Minister in 2012, was the most inclusive scheme of its kind which demonstrates the care and concern of the State Government towards the most disadvantaged sections of the society to uplift their socio-economic conditions. While highlighting the number of beneficiaries in the district who have availed the benefits of this scheme till date, she however felt, that many of such disadvantaged persons in the remote rural areas may not have the knowledge about the scheme and called upon the departments concerned as well as the block machineries to ensure that not a single one of them is left out from availing the scheme. She also informed the beneficiaries that help desks have been set up in their respective blocks where they could approach for necessary help in filling up the application forms.
Stating that a state or a nation is judged by its ability to take care of its most disadvantaged citizens, Deputy Commissioner C.V.D. Diengdoh affirmed that the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme addresses the issues of social security of the most disadvantaged sections of the people and also assured that the district administration would ensure inclusion of all eligible persons in the district under the scheme. He also advised the beneficiaries to inculcate the habit of saving and save part of the money they receive from the scheme in their bank accounts for certain emergencies in future.
Earlier, District Social Welfare Officer, L.J. Sangma briefly highlighted about the scheme, while some of the beneficiaries, including a single mother, also shared to the gathering how the scheme had greatly helped them in meeting their basic needs.
