Shillong : The Mawkynrew Primary Health Centre along with a two day Health Mela under the National Health Mission was inaugurated today by Shri A. L. Hek, Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the presence of Shri R. Pyngrope, local MLA, Shri T. Chyne, MLA, Shri B. Lyngdoh, MDC, Dr. R. Wankhar, DHS (MI), Dr. M.R. Basaiawmoit, DMHO, East Khasi Hills, Dr. (Mrs) J. B. Ranee, DMCHO, Shri W.B.Marbaniang, BDO, Mawkynrew C&RD Blocka and Shri Starling Nongpluh, Sordar Mawkynrew.
The Mawkynrew PHC will cover the villages of Mawkynrew, Mawlien, Umtong, Lynshing, Tmoi, Umsham, Nongpyrdi, Mynriah, Siltham, Khwad, Mawlatbah, Umblai, Mawrasai, Mawkria, Wahmawlein, Mawlakhiat and Wahlyngdoh.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Hek said that the main objective of the Primary Health Centre is to make healthcare services more accessible to the rural people. He called upon the people of the area to take advantage of the healthcare facilities available in the centre.
The Minister also encouraged women to opt for institutional delivery to ensure better treatment and reduce maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate and improving the overall health.
While highlighting the benefits of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), Shri Hek urged the people to enroll themselves in the scheme.
More than 400 people have attended the Health Mela conducted by a team of specialist Doctors from Civil Hospital, Shillong, Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong and NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.
Other highlights of the day include handing over of the Best ASHA Award for Mawkynrew C&RD Block for the year 2014-2015 to Smti Tiewlinda Songthiang from Jongksha –B and Smti Sitamary Nongrum for the year 2015-2016 by the Chief Guest followed by tree plantation.
