Ampati : A mock drill simulating a 6.8 magnitude earthquake disaster was held today at Ampati in South West Garo Hills. Organized by the District Disaster Management Authority the exercise aimed at gauging the disaster preparedness of the staff of the medical and the Fire & Emergency Services who would be the first responders if such an emergency arose in the future. The mock drill was also held keeping in mind the fact that the area falls under the zone five category of the earthquake prone area.
The exercise which was staged at Ampati Community Health Centre, simulated a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that damaged Ampati CHC wherein the male and female ward and the antenatal ward had collapsed. Teams from the Fire & Emergency Services were deployed to evacuate the injured that were tagged according to the severity of their injuries then treated by medical teams stationed at makeshift tents at the EOC.
ADPO,DDMA Debojit Koch was deployed as the observer aided by SDM&HO Dr. Calvaryn Sangma while Ampati CHC in charge Dr. Lydia M Marak was the Incident Commander.
After the mock drill an assessment session was held at the CHC premises wherein all the participants shared their experience during the exercise and gave their recommendations to make their respective teams more efficient in dealing with disaster in the future.
