Shillong : A one day Motivational Programme on the Theme “Cooperative Movement for Socio-Economic and Cultural Development of the Society” was held at Multi Facility Centre, Asanang, West Garo Hills on 3rd June, 2016. The programme was organized by the Cooperation Department, Government of Meghalaya where former Joint Secretary of the Cooperation Department, J. D. Sangma graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
While speaking at the function, J.D. Sangma highlighted the importance of the cooperative societies in our region and further called upon the people to adopt collective work culture since working together as societies yield better results and improves the financial condition of the people which facilitate towards the progress and development of the society. He also informed the gathering about the newly formulated Co-operative Act of 2014, adding that it is necessary to prepare the by-laws for the formation and smooth functioning and working of cooperative societies in accordance with the State Co-operative Act and Rules.
Senior Cooperative Officer, A N Sangma in his speech stated that the Co-operative Movement is an instrument to fight socio-economic ills of the society and thereby uplift the economic status of the society. He expressed concern over people’s lack of interest in the movement saying that there are very few co-operative societies in the region.
Industrial Promotion Officer, District Commerce and Industries Centre, B.D. Shira, enlightened the gathering about various loans and schemes available in the department of District Commerce and Industries Centre, Tura.
Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, West Garo Hills, AG A Sangma, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, VA Sangma, officials of Cooperation Department, Nokma and people of the area were present at the function. (MIPR)
