Shillong : Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, in-charge Revenue and Disaster Management, Prof. R. C. Laloo today attended as Chief Guest at the closing function of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Day 2016 organized by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat, Shillong.
The programme was also attended by P.W. Ingty, Additional Chief Secretary, in charge Revenue and Disaster Management department, R. Awasthi, Director General, Civil Defence and Home Guard, P.S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, DDMA, East Khasi Hills, Smti I.Mawlong, Jt. Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management and Executive Officer, SDMA, government officials, students and teachers from various schools and colleges of Shillong.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Laloo said that the various activities conducted across the State by the Districts and State Disaster Management Authorities for schools and colleges will help to educate the students in particular and also create public awareness of disaster risk reduction and increasing their preparedness for such situations.
Prof. Laloo urged the students to lead and encourage fellow students to promote risk awareness and natural disaster reduction to every individual to take part in building more disaster resilient communities.
As part of the observation of National Disaster Risk Reduction Day 2016 various events were conducted across the State by the Districts and State Disaster Management Authorities for schools and colleges students such as logo competition for State Disaster Management Authority, rally, mock drills, drawing, painting, quiz, extempore speech, placard and banner competitions.
Later the Chief Guest and others dignitaries distributes prizes to the winners of various competitions organized by SDMA.
The winners for the State Logo competition for SDMA, 1st prize bagged by Soreisem Laikham, K.L. Bajoria College,Shillong, 2nd Prize Mark Adon Nongphud, Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong and 3rd Prize Silgrik Marak, Loyala Higher Secondary School, Williamnagar and consolation prizes goes to Miss Rashi Singhania, St.Anthony’s College,Shillong, Lamkordor Kharmyndai and Jettar Rongpi of Ri Bhoi College.
Winners for the placard competition for school level category, 1st Prize goes to B.S.F. Senior Secondary School, Shillong, 2nd Prize bagged by St. Margaret’s higher secondary School, Shillong and 3rdPrize goes to Rilbong P.N.C. Higher Secondary School, Shillong. Winners in the Degree level category, 1st St. Mary’s College of Teacher Education, Shillong, 2nd St.Mary’s College, Shillong and 3rd St. Anthony’s College, Shillong.
Winners for the banner competition in the school level category, 1st Prize goes to St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, 2nd Seng Khasi Higher Secondary School, Shillong and 3rdLaitumkhrah Assamese Secondary School. Winners in the Degree level 1st goes to Lady Keane College, Shillong, 2nd St. Dominic College, Shillong and 3rd goes to St. Mary’s College, Shillong.
