Shillong : The College of Nursing, NEIGRIHMS observed the 4th Graduation Day cum 7th Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony at a function held at its Auditorium in the city today with Meghalaya Governor V.Shanmuganathan gracing the event as Chief Guest.
While the Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony signifies the renewal of commitment not only as student nurses but also as cheer leaders to bring joy, hope and peace to the sick, needy and distressed; the Graduation Day is a moment where graduates take to the nursing profession as frontline management personnel in the public or private sector to serve the sick and suffering irrespective of status or disposition.
It was a moment of joy for the parents and relatives of the 45 Nursing Graduates of 2012-2016 Batch in attendance to see their wards receiving their Degree Certificates & Mementoes; and the honor for having excelled in Nursing Education. The Top Three Position holders of the Batch were also felicitated with cash awards on the occasion.
In his address to the Nursing Graduates and all gathered at the function, the Governor called on the Nurses to be not averse towards working in the remotest and farthest corners of the state. “Do not hesitate to work in the far flung villages where there is poverty and diseases” he said while impressing upon them to serve the neediest who reside in the remotest parts of the state.
The Governor also urged upon the Graduates to be sympathetic towards the sick and suffering while rendering their services, further calling on them to serve with kindness and sans prejudice.
“Treat patients without any prejudice or discrimination. Every life is precious, whether poor or abundant, educated or ignorant”, he further said.
NEIGRIHMS Director, Prof. (Dr) P.Bhattacharya meanwhile impressed upon the Graduates to emulate the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale who resolved to do something for humanity, further stating that the sky is the limit for the graduates if they show respect towards the profession that they have chosen.
Others also present on the occasion were M.S Rao, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Prof. (Dr) Vandana Raphael, Dean, NEIGRIHMS, Hima Das and Babetlin Hynniewta, Tutors, College of Nursing, NEIGRIHMS and other dignitaries and functionaries. (MIPR)
