Shillong : The World Population Stabilization Fortnight was observed today at the Multi Purpose Hall, Block Development Office, Mawkyrwat Block wherein Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest. The programme was organized by the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat. Smt. R. Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat chaired the programme.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Lyngdoh informed that India is the 2nd highest in the world in population and will overtake china in years to come if left uncontrolled and unsolved. He further stated that Meghalaya has a population of about 32 lacs in 2016.
He therefore stressed on the need of a stabilized population as population explosion has certain drawbacks and implications. He therefore urged upon people to take necessary steps and precautionary measures to avoid over population which affects health, environment, growth and development. He suggest that a family should be well planned so as to avoid ignorance and poverty.
He encouraged people to take the advice of doctors about family planning to curb over population. He also advise expecting mothers especially to avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matriva Abhiyan (PMSMA) so as to ensure Antenatal Care to women .While lamenting over the highest infant mortality rate in the District he urged upon the people to avail the benefits offered by the government so as to ensure health and safety for their kids and family. He also insists that parents should teach their children on how to plan their family to avoid unwanted problems in future.
