Ampati: Heavy rain accompanied with strong winds that lashed parts of the state on Saturday afternoon brought extensive damages to houses, plantations, roads and some government installations across the district of South West Garo Hills.
Although total number of affected households and villages were not available till the filing of this report, preliminary reports given by the district police showed that several houses, roads and power lines were damaged in Salmanpara, Anangpara, Purakhasia, Hulukona and Chapahati areas under Zikzak C&RD block and some areas around Ampati, Monabari and Chiringpara under Betasing Block were also affected.
Some portions of the roads were blocked by falling trees and power supply was also cut off the entire night in the district following the storm.
The District Administration has alerted the officials concerned and they have been asked to send in reports of damage to houses, etc so that reports can be processed and FIR can be sent to the Government for necessary action at the earliest and the district and block level officials are already on the ground assessing the extent of damages in their respective areas.
