Shillong: The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides (MBSG) celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of the State Training Centre, Umtyngar on Saturday at the State Training Centre, Umtyngar. Meghalaya Governor, Shri V. Shanmuganathan graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Governor, Shri V. Shanmuganathan expressed his happiness to be a part of the grand celebration. While highlighting the importance of Scouts and Guides in nation building, the Governor said that the Scouts and Guides besides their outer expressions of courage and boldness they also have with them the inner spirit of compassion, unity and brotherhood. He urged the Scouts and Guides to contribute to the overall development of the society, the state and the country as a whole and added that their aspirations should be to bring the country at par with the rest of the world. “One must strive for a greater purpose in life, to achieve higher goals”, he added.
Meghalaya Chief Secretary and President, MBSG, Shri P. B. O. Warjri in his address said that 75 years is a huge milestone for the State Training Centre to achieve and it is a moment of pride for the whole organization. He urged the MSGB to continue working and contributing towards achieving the objectives it has set out for and take it to the greater heights.
Earlier in the programme the Patron Medallion was presented to the Meghalaya Governor, Shri V. Shanmuganathan by the Chief National Commissioner, Shri B. I. Nagrale. The Governor was also presented with the Bharat Scouts and Guides Memento by the Director, National Headquarters and the Special Jubilee Memento by Meghalaya Chief Secretary and President, MBSG, Shri P. B. O. Warjri.
The Meghalaya Governor also released a souvenir on the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the MBSG.
Meghalaya Chief Secretary and President, MBSG, Shri P. B. O. Warjri also presented the Jubilee Memento to the National Commissioner, Shri H. P. Chettri, to the Director, BSG and to the Deputy Director, Boy Programme, Shri Amar Chettri.
During the programme, Shri W. Gasparley Bannett Marwein received the “Impeesa Scouts” Award from the Meghalaya Governor, Shri V. Shanmuganathan for his continuous and untiring efforts and dedication towards uplifting the movement of the MBSG. Shri W. G. B. Marwein joined Scouting in the year 1945 and got a King Scout Award in 1947-48. He also completed his Himalayan Wood Badge Training in 1959 and also became a warranted Scoutmaster of St. Anthony’s High School, Shillong from 1955 to 1957. He was also recognized by Bharat Scouts and Guides in 1997 being the surviving “Scout participating in the first Independence Day in 1947. As a teacher he also received the District, State and National Teacher’s Award culminating in 1989.
Other highlights of the programme includes dance by the contingents from various States, Theme song by Benhur, Community song by NIC Campers and Pyramid Display by the Scouts of East Khasi Hills District among others.
Chief National Commissioner, Shri B. I. Nagrale, National Commissioner (S), Shri H. P. Chettri, Deputy Director, Boy Programme, Shri A. Chettri, President, Meghalaya State Scout and Guide Fellowship, Shri G. G. Pariat and Senior Vice President, MBSG and Chairman, IRCS, Shri W. R. Marbaniang were among others present at the valedictory function .
State Chief Commissioner, Shri F. R. Kharkongor who is also the Secretary, Education etc delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks was proposed by the State Commissioner (G), Dr. M. P. R. Lyngdoh. (MIPR)
