Ampati to celebrate Independence Fortnight 2016

Ampati : The District Administration of South West Garo Hills, in collaboration with the line departments and local organizations will be celebrating “Independence Fortnight 2016” with various programmes across the district leading up to the Independence Day celebration on August 15.

This was decided in today’s meeting of all the district heads of offices, heads of institutions and local committees to chalk out programmes for the celebration under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, CVD Diengdoh who stressed on the involvement of all the people of the district.

As discussed in the meeting, the fortnight-long celebration would kick-start on August 5, 2016 with a theme-based quiz competition for the school children of the district. As part of the celebration, an awareness-cum-voluntary cleaning drives with a target on market areas would be undertaken across the district involving the bazaar committees and school children under the Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign. Under this programme all the district offices and institutions have also been directed to carry out cleaning drives in their respective compounds and premises and the final cleaning drive would be conducted at Ampati Bazar on August 13.

The Independence Cup football league tournament would also be organized in collaboration with the District Sports department and local youth clubs, with the final matches to be played on Independence Day. Independence Day Run will be organized in the Ampati and block headquarters while Road Safety Week would be observed in collaboration with the District Police and District Transport Office to mark the celebrations which would culminate with the Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2016.
