Ampati : A District level Inter School Quiz and Debate completion was today held at Ampati Multi Facility Centre where more than ten schools participated in the event. Organized annually by the District Sports Office under instruction from the Department of Sports and Youth affairs the quiz and debate competition aims at intellectually stimulating the student’s mind for overall healthy mental development and to imbibe in them a competitive spirit.
The winners of the events will be selected to participate at the State Level competitions that will be held during September next month at the State Capital Shillong. Out of the eleven participating schools six of them were shortlisted during an elimination round to go to the finals. The stimulating quiz competition was hosted by renowned quizmaster Sanjib Das who quizzed the participants with queries ranging from international affairs, sports, Nobel laureates to Indian classical art forms and so on.
Katuli Deficit Secondary School bagged the first place in the quiz competition while Nirupama Memorial Secondary School and JNV, Kentrikona was placed second and third respectively. In the debate competition Rahul Hajong of Nirupama Memorial Secondary School was adjudged the winner while Melisha Sangma of Ampati Government Higher Secondary School and Tanmay Hajong of Nirupama Memorial Secondary School bagged the second and third place respectively.
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril V Darlong Diengdoh who inaugurated the competition commended the organizers and stated that such events were a great platform for students to learn and sharpen their minds. He said that learning is the first facet of a learned individual and urged the students to read up more to stay updated on current affairs.
The Deputy Commissioner while emphasizing on the need for students to participate more in such events said that learning should never stop. Everyone should not forget to learn from their
elders, age old traditions, beliefs and practices that have been transferred from one generation to another.
Stressing on all round development the Diengdoh said that a holistic growth needed to be achieved to make the youth more liable to usher in progress.
